Expense Tracker

A couple weeks ago, I thought I’d really like a special notebook to keep track of all of my purchases. I normally keep receipts until I enter them into the budget spreadsheet, but sometimes I don’t get a receipt.

Instead of paying for an expense book from an office supply store, or just settling for a plain memo book, I realized I already owned the perfect item: my checkbook transaction register. I’ve had checking accounts for almost ten years, but haven’t utilized these little books for a very long time.

I don’t keep a running balance of our money, but I do write down the following:

  • category (e.g. grocery)
  • date
  • vendor
  • amount

Now if  I don’t update the online budget for a few days, I have a good record to use! Yay!
